Kate is an awesome cook.

So it turns out that Cole thinks store bought food sucks. I suppose I'm being a little harsh, but whatever. Regardless, we decided to start making our own baby food because it's more natural, more pure, easy to do, and cheap. Kate is actually doing all the work so I must give her the credit. I'm just the documentarian.

It turns out that when I fell in love with Kate so many years ago due to her being an excellent chef, it was with good reason. She makes excellent combinations of M&Ms and Reese's Pieces, and excellent smooshed fruits and vegetables. Dig her handiwork:

Here's proof that it's delicious and that Kate is a genius and that Cole will grow up big, strong and healthy:

This is Keri, Dave P.'s lady friend, with an idea for you. My mom used to do this for my sisters and she would freeze the puree in an ice cube tray, pop little cubes of sweet potato out and defrost as needed. It was all about the bulk food making.

making homemade baby food is the way to go! i did this for lola and everything she ate came from my kitchen. it's the best way to control sodium, nutritional value, and texture. plus, if you buy locally and pesticide-free, you really know where your kiddo's healthy food comes from, start to finish. it also saves hella coin.

this gadget came in handy, and i used it a lot. it's still good for thawing purees that i add to soups or mix in with her table food now that she's on to bigger and better culinary frontiers:

also, this site has awesome info and simple recipes that can be adapted in innumerable ways:

keri's mom's tip is the bomb. freezing in bpa-free ice cube trays makes feeding easy and simple, and allows you to make tons of stuff with whatever is in season or on sale. fyi - each cube is about 2 oz.

rock on with the baby food-making!
